Prayer as a Lifeline
đź“– Scripture:
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” — Colossians 4:2 (ESV)
âť“ Reflective Question:
Is prayer your first response in times of trouble, or is it your last resort?
For many Christians, prayer is an afterthought — a fallback option when all else fails. But Paul’s exhortation to the church in Collosae (an ancient city of Phrygia in Asia Minor) presents a different picture: the act of prayer is to be steadfast, watchful, and filled with thanksgiving. It is not merely a habitual ritual we do every day to feel good. It is a lifeline to our soul, connecting us to the Creator of all who holds all things together.
The reality is that we do not pray as we ought to. We are often too busy for God, too distracted with the things of life, or even worse, become too self-reliant. But the invitation remains: “Come to Me.” God is not indifferent to our concerns, nor is He deaf to our cries. He delights in hearing the prayers of His people, not because He is unaware of our needs, but because He desires our hearts to be fully dependent on Him.
When we pray, we acknowledge our weakness and His strength. We recognise that apart from Him, we can do nothing. Now, as we cultivate a life of steadfast prayer, we will begin to see that our greatest need is not just for answers, but for the presence of the One who is our great refuge and strength.
🙏🏽 Prayer:
“Gracious Father, forgive me for treating prayer as an afterthought rather than my first response. Teach me to be steadfast in prayer, to seek You earnestly, and to trust that You hear and answer according to Your perfect will. May my heart be ever drawn to You in thanksgiving and dependence. In Jesus’ name”
Amen.
